Saint-Paul is a civil parish[a] in Kent County, New Brunswick, Canada.

Delineation

Saint-Paul Parish is defined in the Territorial Division Act[2] as being bounded:

North by the western prolongation of the northern line of Wellington Parish; east by the McLaughlin Road;[b] west by the Canadian National Railways Line, and southwest by the County line.

Governance

The entire parish forms the local service district of the parish of Saint-Paul,[c] established in 1966 to assess for fire protection. Community services were added in 1987, recreational and sports facilities in 2008, and non-fire related rescue in 2015. First aid and ambulance services (1982–2008) were formerly included.

Notes

  1. ^ Civil parishes served a variety of government functions until 1966, when the new Municipalities Act stripped them of their responsibilities; they continue to provide convenient boundaries for government uses, especially electoral districts and local service districts. Statistics Canada uses civil parishes as census subdivisions for all parts of the province that are not within municipalities and similar entities.

  3. ^ The name was originally styled Saint Paul; this was changed to the modern form in 1985. The French name was in the modern style when the LSD regulation was made bilingual in 1984.
