Hněvošice (German: Schreibersdorf, Polish: Gniewoszyce) is a village in the of the Opava District of the Czech Republic. It is part of micro-region Hlučínsko. It has around 1,000 inhabitants.
History
The first written mention of the village was recorded in 1349, when the brothers Trutvín and Vítek were the owners of Hněvošice. They built a courtyard and a fortress. The courtyard was destroyed by fire at the beginning of the 18th century.[2]
Name
The name of the village Hněvošice is believed to be derived from the first name Hněvoš, although some people believe it was named after the folk name Něboščice.[2]
Legal status
In 1920, the village was annexed to the Czechoslovak Republic and incorporated into the district of Hlučín. In 1928, it was changed to the Opava district.[2]

Church of St. Peter and Paul
The Church of St. Peter and Paul is a church located in the town. It has been protected as a cultural monument and is registered on the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic.[3] It is a baroque church that was built in 1730. It was funded by Johann Rudolf Žarovský from Žarov.[4]
