PronunciationLah-na, Lan-na
GenderFemale

Lana is a female given name and surname. It can be found most frequently in the English speaking countries, Russia, Croatia,[1] and various other European countries.[2] "Lana" can be short for Alana or Svetlana,[1] as well as a derivative of the Greek name Helen.

This name could come from the Gaelic ailin, meaning "little rock". This name's use in Irish probably derives from the phrase a leanbh, which was used to call a child.[citation needed] In Hawaiian it means "calm as still waters" or "afloat" [3]
