Dorud (Persian: دورود, also Romanized as Dorūd, Dūrūd, and Dow Rūd)[2] is a city in and capital of Dorud County, Lorestan Province, Iran. At the 2011 census, its population was 174,508 in 50,140 families,[3] and it's the biggest city in Lorestan after Borujerd and Khorramabad. The name Dorud means "where two rivers meet", where "do" means two, and "rud" means river. Dorud ( pronunciation guide · Information) is one of the cities of Lorestan province and the capital city of Dorud. Dorud is the third most populous city of Lorestan. Dorud is located in the range of the Zagros Mountains and beside Oshtorankuh. Two branches of the river Dez, one of the north (Tire) and one of the east (Marbore) surround Dorud (hence its name).

Dorud is nicknamed "the Natural Capital of Iran", due to its many natural attractions, including Oshtorankuh (lit. the Mount of the Camels), Mount Pariz, Gahar Lake, Babahur, Azgan wetland, river Sepidab (lit. White Water), mount Qarun and Aznadar, Talezang, Abgar and Chekan waterfalls.

Following the construction of the Iranian Railway System during the reign of King Reza, Dorud quickly developed from a small and undeveloped city to a highly populated city, mostly due to immigration.

Dorud has occasionally suffered affecting natural disasters, including earthquake and floods, leaving hundreds of people killed, injured and homeless.

Sports

Dorud has one main football team, Gahar Zagros F.C., which plays in the Azadegan League (2nd Division) of Iran. Gahar Zagros was the first team from the Province of Lorestan to make it to the Persian Gulf Pro League.
