Tambeæ = Tambae was an ancient city and bishopric of Roman North Africa which remains only as Latin Catholic titular see.

History

Tambeae is located near Aïn-Beida and Henchir-Baboucha in modern Tunisia. It was, like many cities in the Roman province of Byzacena, important enough to become a suffragan of the metropolitan of Carthage, but would fade completely, plausibly at the seventh century advent of Islam.

Five of its bishops are historically documented :

Titular see

The diocese was nominally restored in 1933 as Latin Titular bishopric of Tambeæ (Latin spelling) / Tambee (Curiate Italian) / Tambeæn(sis) (Latin adjective).

It has had the following incumbents, so far of the fitting Episcopal (lowest) rank :

  • Pedro Aguilera Narbona (1966.11.21 – death 1968.01.23) as emeritus; previously Bishop of Iquique (Chile) (1941.09.15 – retired 1966.11.21)
