Jim Wood (born April 10, 1960) is an American politician currently serving in the California State Assembly. He is a Democrat representing the 2nd Assembly District, which encompasses parts of California's North Coast.
Prior to being elected to the Assembly in 2014, he was the Mayor of Healdsburg and a dentist. He also served as Healdsburg City Council for 8 years from 2006 to 2014.[1]
Wood sponsored the California Naloxone Requirement Bill, California Assembly Bill 2760 (AB 2760), which requires medical prescribers to offer a prescription for naloxone (or equivalent) to certain populations at higher risk of overdosing from opiate drugs. It passed both chambers of the legislature, Senate and Assembly, unanimously. On September 10, 2018, California Governor Jerry Brown signed the bill into law.[2]
