The KX Cross was revealed at the 2017 Auto Shanghai. Essentially a crossover variant of the Kia K2 sold in the Chinese market, the KX Cross is 30 mm wider and 40 mm longer than the international standard Rio hatchback.[2][3] In November 2017, the Kia KX Cross sold 7,948 units in China and delivered a total of 19,734 units within three months.[4]

The KX Cross has been produced in Russia, near St. Petersburg, as the Kia Rio X-Line since 2017.[5]
