Aafreen Rachel Vaz is a model and beauty pageant titleholder. She was crowned Femina Miss India Supranational 2015 on March 28, 2015 at Yash Raj Studios, Mumbai. She represented India at Miss Supranational 2015 held in Poland and became a Top 10 finalist. She was also crowned Miss Supranational Asia and Oceania 2015.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
Vaz was born in Bombay (now Mumbai).[4] Her family hails from Mangalore, but settled in New Zealand when she was in her teens.
She is a student of medicine at A J Institute of Medical Science, Mangaluru.
Vaz is one of the very few Miss India winners who were medical students during their reign, like Yasmin Daji - Miss Universe 1966-3rd Runner Up, Reita Faria - Miss World 1966, Kalpana Pandit-dethroned Femina Miss India 1989, Lakshmi Pandit-dethroned Femina Miss India 2004 and Pooja Chitgopekar - Miss Earth - Air 2007.
Career and pageantry
She is a model and a medical student. In 2010, she participated New Zealand's Next Top Model (cycle 2) and was eliminated in the fourth episode. Later in 2015, she participated in Campus Princess 2015 and was declared the eventual winner. After winning Campus Princess she got a direct entry to the Femina Miss India 2015 contest and was crowned Femina Miss India Supranational 2015. She also won Miss Congeniality award at the said pageant.
She represented India at Miss Supranational 2015 held in Poland and became a Top 10 finalist. She was also crowned Miss Supranational Asia and Oceania 2015, became 1st Runner Up at Miss Internet sub-competition and placed in the Top 10 of the Top Model and Best National Costume sub-competitions. She became the second Indian woman to be crowned Miss Supranational Asia and Oceania, the first being Michelle Almeida, Miss Supranational India 2011, who was also a top 10 finalist at Miss Supranational 2011 and the winner of Miss Internet award.
