Aiko Melendez (born December 16, 1975) is a Filipino actress and former politician. Her father, Jimmy Melendez (born Jim Shinoji) was an actor.

In the late 80s through the run of the 90s she became a caliber Blockbuster Leading lady to big actors such as Richard Gomez and Jomari Yllana and Aga Muhlach in several movies in the business she scored multiple awards from award giving bodies with May Minamahal 1993 and 1995 Sa’yo Lamang in 1997 she did the film Kahit Kailan which scored high at awards night at the MMFF for Best Picture all produced and co produced by Lily Monteverde. In the later 2000s away from Film work she would do TV work on and off in 2017 she won praise for her role in Wildflower as the cunning Emilia in the Primetime Soap

Career

In the late 1980s, Melendez was discovered by Regal Films with whom she signed a contract and became one of their 'Regal Babies'.[1] Her half-brother Jam Melendez (son of Jimmy Melendez and Deborah Sun) also entered showbusiness.[2]

Aiko ran for councilor in the barangay elections in Quezon City in 2001 and won. She was Councillor of the 2nd District of Quezon City for 9 years through 2010.[3][4] She has done several shows on GMA Network but most often appears on ABS-CBN.[3]

In 2011, Aiko returned to ABS-CBN for an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya and Reputasyon with Cristine Reyes and Rayver Cruz.[5][6] In 2013, she was part of the TV Series Apoy Sa Dagat costarring Angelica Panganiban, Piolo Pascual and Diether Ocampo.[4] In 2015, she was part of the TV Series, Inday Bote playing the role Fionna Vargas.[7]

Personal life

She was married to actor Jomari Yllana from 2000 to 2003. Melendez and Yllana have a son named Andrei.[8] In 2006, Aiko married Martin Jickain.[3] The marriage was annulled in 2010.[9] In 2013, Aiko became Born Again Christian.[10]
