Air Canada Rouge is a leisure carrier and a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Canada that began service on 1 July 2013.[1] The carrier is fully integrated into the Air Canada mainline and Air Canada Express networks. Flights are sold with AC flight numbers, but are listed as "operated by Air Canada Rouge" (similar to regional flights operated under the Air Canada Express banner).
Air Canada Rouge serves predominantly leisure destinations in Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico and the United States. Destinations in Europe include Edinburgh, Venice, Athens, Lisbon, Dublin, Nice, Barcelona, Rome and Manchester. Destinations in the Caribbean include Cuba, Costa Rica, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
As of March 2014, Air Canada Rouge has 15 planes in its fleet, 12 Airbus A319-100's and 3 Boeing 767-300's. Future fleet is targeted at 50 aircraft. Air Canada Rouge aircraft do not have any in-seat power or individual video displays and instead wirelessly stream entertainment to passengers' Apple devices or laptops.
Baggage policy is the same as Air Canada's, and catering is complimentary on flights to/from Europe, with a buy-on-board offering on all other flights in line with the mainline service. Air Canada's mainline economy class fare services (Tango, Flex and Latitude) apply to the new carrier with some adjustments. The airline launched on 1 July 2013 with services to Venice, Edinburgh, and Athens, along with various Caribbean destinations.
On March 24, 2014, Air Canada announced that Air Canada Rouge will expand into Western Canada beginning in spring 2014. The airline will serve predominantly leisure markets from Vancouver and Calgary to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Anchorage.[2]
