alliantgroup is a national tax consulting services firm that works with CPA firms and their business clients to identify and claim available federal and state government-sponsored tax credits and incentives. alliantgroup assists companies with obtaining tax incentives for activities such as research and development, manufacturing, exporting, energy-efficient design, and hiring in certain established enterprise zones.

History

alliantgroup was founded in 2002 by Jim M. Jacobsen & Dhaval Jadav, as Co-CEO, formerly with Big 4 accountancy firm Deloitte, and Shane Frank, COO.

Services

alliantgroup’s services include identifying tax credits and business deductions and developing detailed case studies to substantiate claims in connection with the following federal and state tax credit and incentive programs:

  • Research & Development Tax Credit: To receive the R&D credit, businesses must identify and substantiate credits based on a company’s qualified research activities and expenditures.[1]
  • Export Incentives: Interest Charge Domestic International Sales Corporation (IC-DISC): To encourage a better balance of trade and help keep U.S. products competitive in the world market, the government offers certain tax incentives for U.S. companies that sell goods and services abroad.[2]
  • Domestic Production Deduction (DPD): The Internal Revenue Code Section 199 provides tax incentives for businesses that perform domestic manufacturing and certain other production activities.[3]
  • Energy-Efficient Commercial Building Incentives: Based on Section 179D of the Internal Revenue Code, tax benefits are available for the design and installation of energy-efficient systems including interior lighting, HVAC, hot water, or building envelopes in commercial and government buildings.[4]
  • State and Local Tax (SALT) Credits: Tax breaks including state add backs and modifications, alternative filing positions for apportion able and allocable income, and nexus issues related to state income and franchise taxes may be available to certain businesses in many states and cities.
  • Hiring Credits and Incentives: Various states offer hiring tax credits and deductions to employers to encourage and stimulate growth, development, and investment in economically depressed areas.[5]
  • Tax Controversy Services: Audit defense services associated with IRS and state revenue examinations that includes pre-audit risk analysis and planning, representation through IRS and State administrative proceedings and further, assistance with lawsuits (or other legal matters) and litigation support.[6]

Notable current employees and board members

Strategic Advisory Board

A strategic advisory board composed of industry experts including those formerly from Big 4 accounting firms, law firms, and the IRS, provides guidance to alliantgroup's directors and clients.[7] Members of the advisory board include former IRS Commissioner, Mark W. Everson,[8] former Missouri Governor and U.S. Senator Kit Bond,[9] former Minnesota Congressman Jim Ramstad,[10] former New York Congressman Rick Lazio, Bob Riley,[11] former Alabama Governor and U.S. Congressman, as well as Dean Zerbe, former Senior Counsel and Tax Counsel to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee.[12] In January 2010, Zerbe was profiled on Keith Olbermann’s MSNBC show as part of the "Worse, Worser, Worst” segment for his comments on Wyclef Jean’s Haitian relief fund[13] Other publications, though, including the New York Post and The New York Times, published articles that shared Zerbe’s scrutiny regarding the charity.[14][15]

Media coverage

alliantgroup has been referenced in various articles in national publications and websites including Forbes,[16] Accounting Today,[17] CNBC.com,[18] Bloomberg,[19] and Roll Call.[20] On June 19, 2012, Bloomberg published an article alleging that alliantgroup had been investigated by the IRS.[21]
