Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM is the current Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army. He assumed this office on 30 January 2018.[1] He was previously the Commander, III Corps of the Indian Army and took over this role from Lt. General Abhay Krishna.[2][3][4][5][6]

Early life and education

Chauhan is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.[2][5]

Career

Chauhan was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles in 1981. He has held several command, staff and instructional appointments during his career and has experience in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast India. He was also server as a United Nations mission to Angola.[2][5]

During his career, he has been awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (2018), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, the Sena Medal, the Vishisht Seva Medal for his service.[2][5][7]
