Birkur mandal has around 42 villages with 45 lakes, which carries adequate water (if conserved from rain harvest) for all of Birkur mandal for agriculture and drinking.

Birkur is one of the historical village built next to Manjeera riverbed. Rich of agricultural farms such as Paddy, sugarcane, peanuts, sunflower are the major crops. Birkur is a cosmopolitan village/suburbs with mix of locals, local tribes, people from across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Birkur has advantages of being in Telangana, close to Maharashtra and Karnataka. A few international visitors visit Birkur once in a while. Birkur experienced growth in higher education since mid 1990s.

History

Birkur is on the border of Telangana(previously AP) and Maharashtra. Is ruled by the local king until merge into India after independence.
