BoBoiBoy Galaxy is a 2016 children's animated series produced by Animonsta Studios. It is the sequel to BoBoiBoy. Unlike the original, BoBoiBoy Galaxy focuses more on an adventure based storyline.[1]
The series began airing on TV3 25 November 2016, [2], on MNCTV in January 2017 and Disney Channel Southeast Asia on July 7, 2017.
Synopsis
BoBoiBoy Galaxy is a story about Power Sphera, robots created to give great power to its owners. However, the Power Sphera project was eventually considered dangerous and cancelled, and many of the Power Sphera fled and hid across the galaxy. Coveted by many, various aliens have been trying to find and capture the Power Sphera for their own benefit. To prevent the Power Sphera from falling into the hands of a villain, a young hero from Earth, BoBoiBoy, was assigned to track the spheres scattered throughout the galaxy with the help of his friends.
Production
Nizam Razak, the creator of BoBoiBoy, said that the idea of changing the storyline came in 2014 when he was in Japan. He was impressed with the diversity of Pokémon merchandise, getting the idea to diversify the Power Spheres. They started making the series after the end of BoBoiBoy mid-2016 and changed the storyline to be more active where BoBoiBoy would travel around the galaxy instead of waiting for enemies to come to Earth. The setting in this series takes place one to two years from the original series, although the target audience is still for 7 to 12 year-olds. Animonsta Studios plans to make at least 300 episodes, with films coming every two years.[3]
Release
Animonsta Studios has announced BoBoiBoy Galaxy unofficially in 2013 where they released a picture of BoBoiBoy Galaxy poster with different attire of BoBoiBoy Blaze and BoBoiBoy Ice. They were believed as the first concept of the second level of BoBoiBoy Fire and Water before it was changed in BoBoiBoy's Season 3. Animonsta later reveals the plan of BoBoiBoy Galaxy in their website,[1] though most of fans were still unaware it was to be a rebranding of the series.
Animonsta Studios then announced it officially on their Facebook account: BoBoiBoy Galaxy would be aired in June 2016.[4] After BoBoiBoy: The Movie, they made a new and detailed announcement: the storyline is more on travelling across the galaxy to search for Power Spheres, the setting takes place 2 to 3 years after BoBoiBoy: The Movie and MONSTA will also release the comic first before the animated series. They also announced that production will start soon and expected to release its first batch of episodes around September to December 2016.[5]
In July 2016, they announced that BoBoiBoy Galaxy will be aired in end year's school holiday in Malaysia at TV3 while the broadcast for MNCTV in Indonesia will start on January 2017.[2]
Broadcast history
The first episode was broadcast on 25 November 2016, with the new episode broadcast every Friday at 5.00 pm on TV3. The first six episodes were broadcast consecutively. It aired on Disney Channel Southeast Asia in July 7, 2017.
