Dr. Burra Narsaiah (2 March 1959) is an Indian politician and Member of Parliament. He belongs to Telangana Rashtra Samithi. He earlier was laparoscopic, obesity and gastrointestinal surgeon from Telangana, India. He is regarded as a pioneer of laparoscopy in India when it was confined to a few centers in the western world. He is credited with more than 20,000 laparoscopic surgeries which include both the onco and bariatric varieties. He was an active proponent of Telangana statehood and was a member of Telangana Joint Action Committee.

Early life

He was born in Suryapet, Nalgonda District, Telangana. He did his medicine from Osmania Medical College.

Career

He is currently the director of Hyderabad Institute of Laparoendoscopic Surgery (HILS) and provides services at Aditya Hospital [1] and Care Hospital in Telangana. He is the founding chairman of Boora Laxmaiah and Rajamma(BLR) foundation to provide free laparoscopic infertility services for childless couples.[2] He is also credited with spreading awareness of laparoscopic surgery in rural areas of Telangana.

Political career

He started taking an active role in the latest round of the Telangana agitation. He contested and won as a Member of Parliament from Bhongir (Lok Sabha constituency) on a TRS party ticket, with a margin of over 30,300 votes.

Awards

  • Special Surgical Skill award from Central Health Ministry in 1989.[3]
  • Best Surgeon award in 1990.[3]
