A cape is categorized as a land feature connected to either a peninsula or a mainland (Massachusetts in this instance) Thus lacking this feature, it is an island. It was formerly a cape until 1914 in which the Cape Cod Canal seperated the Cape from the mainland revoking its Cape status. undo Tag: Reverted

However Artificial, it is still separated from the mainland and is reliant on two bridges for vital transportation. A peninsula is characterized as a land mass connected to a larger land mass via a small land crossing thus forming the peninsula. Lacking such identifying features, It should be considered an Island.
