Category criteria changed?

[edit]

This category was created in 2009 by Mayumashu, but there were very few entries in it and there was no description of who should be considered to belong to "20th century" - so, on 28 April 2013‎, I arbitrarily picked "Novelists born in the 20th-century" and started populating it. So far I have added about 400 entries. However I just noticed that five days after I started work on this category another editor has changed the criteria with no edit summary, without notifying me, and I am not sure that he/she has gone through the entries I have already added and adjusted the category list as required? I don't like participating in endless discussions, so will leave my work here unfinished. Hope someone else picks this up. Ottawahitech (talk) 23:49, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - when you look at category contents, there's no way to know who has been populating it. I changed the criteria to be "active" in the 20th century since that is usually how literature studies work - when people talk about 19th c. literature, they're not talking about people who were born in 1899, but rather people who were publishing novels in the 19th c. I assume most of the articles you categorized will still be fine nonetheless. I note that there is a subcat for 20th c american novelists that you could also populate.--Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 00:00, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Subcategories

I just created Category:20th-century British novelists. There may be other sub-cats that are worth creating.John Pack Lambert (talk) 01:25, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
