I think this category's name should be changed to Politicians of Afghanistan. My reasoning for this is that we have a few politicians here that do not call themselves Afghan, such as Latif Pedram. And this name change makes good sense. If anyone doesn't object, I will ask admins for a name change. Behnam 09:01, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The original name has the advantage that it is shorter and clearer. As Strunk & White wrote, shorter and clearer is better, even for us geniuses.
In my opinion a new name has to be significantly better to justify a name change, because it is confusing to people who continue to think they can use the name they are familiar with.
It is not clear to me how the name change would ameliorate the list containing individuals who aren't Afghan citizens.
Whoever is moving individuals from one category to the other, pleas stop and engage in a dialogue, before continuing.
Behnam and I had a further discussion, and I was completely won over. I now believe that Category:Politicians of Afghanistan is a significantly better name than Category:Afghan politicians. I know better. I should have returned here, and said so earlier.
A couple of days ago someone nominated this category for speedy renaming. They might have looked at this discussion page and assumed that there were no good reasons for the longer name. I regret not returning here earlier to state that I found Behnam's reasoning completely convincing
