Proposed Amtrak Stations[edit]

I noticed how the some rail lines in the US appear to use the Category:Future for rail stations under construction and the Category:Proposed for those that are still in the planning stages. The Amtrak were inconsistent with some from both conditions here or just plain Category:Proposed railway stations in the United States. I moved all the Amtrak stations here that were either under construction or still in planning stages since there is no proposed. I was also surprised there was no lead paragraph on the Category:Proposed and Category:Future pages explaining this difference. Just checking to see if my perceptions are correct or controversial. The discrepancy was noted when I created this category but I hoped that someone from WP Trains would come along and clear it up. - Brianhe (talk) 03:02, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed that at Category:Proposed railway stations there does not appear to be any distinction. It says, "This is a parent category for all railway stations which are currently planned or under construction. Stations should be subcategorized by continent and country, and hence linked also to categories Future public transportation by country and Railway stations by country." Maybe there isn't a distinction so Category:Railway stations under construction is just added with the existing Category:Proposed or Category:Future to show the current status. The one I noticed is the Seattle area Category:Future Link Light Rail stations and Category:Proposed Link Light Rail stations but there isn't a note mentioning the distinction. Interesting enough, Category:Railway stations under construction branches into year (Category:Railway stations scheduled to open in 2015) and two North American nations (Category:Railway stations under construction in the United States). At least it is clear that when construction is finished, Category:Railway stations opened in 2015 is be added. Fettlemap (talk) 03:50, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The idea for Link, I think, is to distinguish between committed (funded) projects as "future" and unfunded "proposals". @SounderBruce: can you confirm? - Brianhe (talk) 04:19, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, the "Future" category is for stations under construction or funded by a ballot measure and being actively planned (design, engineering, etc.) by Sound Transit; the "proposed" category includes anything that hasn't been fully approved and allocated funding by the board, FTA or another entity. Many of the entries in the latter need to be moved have been moved, as construction has started on East Link and station-level design is underway for Lynnwood Link.
