Thoreau

[edit]

How can Thoreau be considered a pacifist, considering his support of the violent abolitionist, John Brown? H2O 18:58, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)

It is difficult to reconcile the designation of Jimmy Carter as a "pacifist" with his significant Naval career. Also, the emphasis on human rights in the Carter Presidency was often more a matter of speaking than doing. For example, upon the near-genocidal initial invasion of East Timor by Indonesia, the Carter administration continued to provide aid to the Indonesian military. East Timor is recognized by the United Nations as a sovereign nation; the only countries which dispute this fact are Indonesia and the United States. drone5 15:28, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hugo Chavez

[edit]

Considering he spent 17 years in the military it is difficult to see how he belongs in the pacifist category.
