Charopidae is a taxonomic family of small air-breathing land snails (and semi-slugs such as Otoconcha dimidiata), terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Punctoidea (according to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005).[1]

2005 taxonomy

The family Charopidae consists of the following subfamilies according to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005:[1]

  • Charopinae Hutton, 1884 - synonyms: Phenacohelicidae Suter, 1892; Flammulinidae Crosse, 1895; Amphidoxinae Thiele, 1931; Dipnelicidae Iredale, 1937; Hedleyoconchidae Iredale, 1942; Pseudocharopidae Iredale, 1944; Trachycystidae Schileyko, 1986; Therasiinae Schileyko, 2001; Flammoconchinae Schileyko, 2001; Ranfurlyinae Schileyko, 2001
  • Otoconchinae Cockerell, 1893
  • Rotadiscinae H. B. Baker, 1927
  • Semperdoninae Solem, 1983
  • Thysanotinae Godwin-Austen, 1907
  • Trukcharopinae Solem, 1983

2017 taxonomy

WoRMS recognize additional subfamilies, that were previously recognized as synonyms of the subfamily Charopinae:

  • Flammoconchinae Schileyko, 2001[2]
  • Flammulininae Crosse, 1895[3]
  • Phenacohelicinae Suter, 1892[4]
  • Ranfurlyinae Schileyko, 2001[5]
  • Therasiinae Schileyko, 2001[6]
