Notes

  • Before 1986, the Indianapolis 500 was shown on a same-day delay basis. It was also blacked out in the Indianapolis market. 1986 marked the first time that the race was to be broadcast live. The beginning was delayed on consecutive days by rain and was postponed to that Saturday.
  • In 1997, a rain storm pushed all pre-race activities to Memorial Day. On about the 15th lap of the rescheduled race, the race was red flagged because of developing rain, which would eventually postpone the race for the day. The 500 was ultimately completed the day after. In addition, Bobby Unser (turn 2) and Danny Sullivan (turn 4) served was turn play-by-play announcers.
