BI Group — is a Kazakh construction and project management company that stands as one of the largest players operating in the building industry of Kazakhstan..[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] BI Group comprises 3 companies: BI Development, BI Construction & Engineering, BI Education. Headquarters located in Astana.

History

1998 — Established as ABK-Kurylys Company, the enterprise's initial focus was on small-scale residential constructions;

2001 — The company was rebranded as BI Group and expanded its operations to commercial infrastructure[7];

2004 — BI Group ventured into the production of building materials, supplying to both internal projects and external clients[8];

2005 — increasing the production capacity: BI Group carried out 17 design and construction projects and launched the construction of the commercial real estate;

2007 — By now, the company had constructed over 20 residential complexes.[9] The share of BI Group in the primary real estate market in Astana amounted to 18%[10] [11];

2010 — BI Group took part in significant infrastructure initiatives such as the international transport corridor, "Western Europe - Western China."[12];

2012 — Representative offices were established in Moscow and Almaty, signaling the group's expansion intentions.

2013 — BI Group became the largest construction company in Kazakhstan with a turnover of $1.2 billion. While preparing to Astana EXPO-2017, the Company developed the Green Quarter innovative project certified according to one of the LEED systems[13].

2014 — BI Group was listed in ENR Top-250 Global Contractors – the world ranking of the largest developers and ranked the 189th.[14] [15]

2015 — with a turnover of $1.4 billion, the Company had gained 25 positions and ranked the 164th in ENR Top-250 Global Contractors[16]. The Company's share in the Astana's primary real estate market reached 52% with landmark projects like the "BI City" residential complex[38], the share in the road construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan - 20 %.

2016 — The Company implemented the project of the longest bridge in Kazakhstan - across the Irtysh River[17][18][19].

2017 — The company solidified its presence in the Russian market and was instrumental in Astana's urban infrastructure with projects like the "Expo 2017" pavilions[20]

In the same period, BI Infra Construction became a co-owner of the R-Vostok company[21], which performed construction services for 12 projects of such railway arteries as the Baikal-Amur Mainline and Trans-Siberian Railroad.

In August, BI Group Holding commissioned the five-star Hilton hotel in the area of Astana EXPO-2017 exhibition complex built within 8 months[22][23]. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the official opening ceremony.

2018 — BI Group completed its first international project in Georgia – a road leading to historical caves of the Paleolithic era. The total length of the mountain route - Orpiri - Tsutsvati - Mgvime in Imereti made 10 km. Overseas representative offices of the company were opened in Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

BI University received a state license for educational services and entered the business education market.

2019 — Partnerships were forged with international firms such as Greek company Archirodon and South Korea's Daewoo Engineering & Construction, a top-3 real estate developer in South Korea with its own acoustic laboratory.

2020 – An alliance was struck with Uzbekistan-based developer Murad Buildings[24][25]. Concurrently, BI Group expanded into IT solutions, developing platforms tailored for construction management.

S&P Agency confirmed the solvency rating of BI Group at B-/B level with a change in the forecast to “stable”. According to its strategy, the Holding intends to enter the TOP-100 construction companies in the world by reaching a turnover of $2 billion[26].

2021 – The company climbed in the ENR Top-250 Global Constructors list rankings, showcasing its growing global prominence[27][28]

BI Group and Sber have agreed to implement joint projects in education and healthcare in Russia and Kazakhstan on the principle of public-private partnership.[29][30][31]

Activities

BI Group Holding is represented in two areas of the construction business: general contracting and development projects.

The implemented projects:

  • Railway lines Shalkar - Beineu and Arkalyk – Shubarkol;
  • Bridge crossing over the Irtysh river in Pavlodar Region;
  • High-speed cars manufacturing plant Tulpar-Talgo[32] [33];
  • Balkhash Thermal Power Plant;
  • Network of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools in the regional centers of Kazakhstan;
  • Pedestrian bridge across the Esil river "Atyrau kopiri";
  • Botanical Garden of Astana;
  • JETІSÝ Recreation Park;
  • Turkestan Arena Stadium for 7 thousand seats;
  • Wind Farm Badamsha;
  • High School of Burabay iQanat in the village of Borovoe;
  • ModeX – a plant of the new generation in Astana;
  • Hampton by Hilton Turkestan city;
  • Qazaqstan Athletics stadium.

Philanthropic Ventures

BI Group, in 2005, initiated the BI-Zhuldyzai corporate fund. The primary mission of this foundation is to offer support to children with special needs, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and education[34]

BI also focuses on environmental protection, including the traditional eco-action BI Green, popularization of sports[35], development of tourist routes in the mountains of Almaty, development of educational projects and the state language.

IT solutions

In the digital domain, BI Group developed platforms such as BI Partners[36] [37] (a web portal and mobile application), the Central Dispatching System (a kind of internal Uber for purchasing the services of heavy equipment) and the BI Click project (a mobile online service for purchasing real estate) that are tailored to enhance the efficiency and transparency of construction management.

Another major digital project of the company, the BIG App mobile app[38], is an ecosystem of online services for BI Group customers, from searching, buying and insuring real estate to paying for utilities and home internet.
