Jānis Kalējs (born 1st of May 1948) is an opera singer, tenor. Since 1963 he studied at the wind instrument faculty of Jelgava Music School, later he enrolled in Jāzeps Vītols Latvian State Conservatory, in the singing class of professor Aleksandrs Viļumanis. From 1974 he continued his studies at the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Leningrad (Saint Petersburg) State Conservatory, in the vocal class of professor N. Serval. From 1979 to 1993 J.Kalējs was a soloist at the Latvian National Opera, sang first and second plan roles, collaborated with such concertmasters as L.Holberga and I.Villeruša, Latvian composer and teacher, R.Jermak. Jānis gave concerts in Latvia, Lithuania, participated in sacred music concerts in Germany and Shalyapin Opera Festival in Kazan. He currently works as a vocal consultant, teacher.
