Jack Watkins (born 1992) is a British singer-songwriter and music producer known for his fusion of acoustic instruments, electronic synths, and soulful vocals. His music often explores themes such as self-acceptance and personal growth. Watkins has gained recognition for his emotive performances and melodic compositions, with his work resonating with a broad audience across pop, electronic, and LGBTQ+ genres. He has achieved commercial success, including charting in the iTunes top 10, and has performed to sold-out audiences.

Early life

[edit]

Jack Watkins was born in 1992 in Blackburn, Lancashire, UK. He began his musical journey at the age of six, receiving classical training in piano. This early education provided him with a strong foundation in music, although Watkins later developed a deep passion for pop music, particularly electronic, synth, commercial pop, and dance music.

Watkins furthered his education at the SAE Institute in Liverpool, where he studied for a BA/BSc degree in Audio Engineering and Music Production. He was mentored by Mark Stagg, an experienced music producer, who played a significant role in shaping Watkins’ production skills. This combination of classical training and contemporary education has been instrumental in developing Watkins’ unique sound as a songwriter and producer.

Music career

[edit]

Watkins launched his professional music career with the release of his debut EP, Light in the Dark, in the summer of 2022.[1] The EP, which delves into themes of coming out and self-acceptance, was well-received and reached the top 10 in the iTunes charts, marking his first significant commercial success.[2]

In June 2023, Watkins released his second EP, Infinity Inside.[3] Known for its rich melodies and introspective lyrics, the EP further solidified his presence in the music industry. Watkins celebrated the release with his first solo headline show, Infinity Inside Live, at The Grand in Clitheroe, where he performed to a full house. The concert featured live piano performances, vocal tracks, and interactive elements that engaged the audience.

The year 2024 has been especially prolific for Watkins. He released four singles in the first four months, followed by the announcement of his debut album, Wonderland, scheduled for release on 6 September 2024.[4] The album will compile his previous works alongside new material, narrating the story of his lifelong relationship with music.[5] To promote the album, Watkins is set to perform live at Wonderland: The Concert on 21 September 2024, at The Grand in Clitheroe.[6]
