Kyler J. McMichael (born March 22, 2000) is an American football cornerback who is currently a free agent. He played college football for the Clemson Tigers and the North Carolina Tar Heels.[1] He went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft.[2]

Early life and high school

McMichael played high school football at Greater Atlanta Christian School and Northview High School, both of which are in Georgia in the Atlanta metropolitan area.[3] On June 23, 2017, McMichael announced that he would be committing to play college football for the Clemson Tigers.[4] Later that year, he attended "The Opening 2017 Regional" in Atlanta and would graduate from high school in 2018.[3]

College career

During McMichael's true freshman season in 2018, he played in 12 games making his debut against Furman. He finished the season with making two tackles in 101 total snaps.[5]

On July 19, 2019, it was announced that McMichael would be entering the transfer portal.[6] The following day, he announced that he would commit to play for the North Carolina Tar Heels via X.[7]

North Carolina

McMichael played 3 full seasons with the Tar Heels whilst redshirting his sophomore year.[8] His freshman year he played two games versus Florida State and Syracuse and would record 3 tackles. After his sophomore redshirt year, he would play 6 games including a postseason game versus Texas A&M. He would record 26 tackles throughout the season whilst the Tar Heels maintained a 4-3 record in games where McMichael played. In his senior season, he would play 18 games with 17 tackles and an interception.[9] McMichael would verbally declare for the NFL Draft on December 17, 2021.[10]

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

On April 30, 2022, McMichael was signed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent after going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft.[12] McMichael was waived on August 29, 2022.[13]

Buffalo Bills

On September 1, 2022, McMichael was signed to the Buffalo Bills practice squad.[14] On January 23, 2023, McMichael was signed to a reserve/future contract.[15] He was released on June 7, 2023.[16]

Arizona Cardinals

On June 8, 2023, McMichael was claimed by the Arizona Cardinals off of waivers.[17] He was waived with an injury designation on August 29, 2023.[18][19]
