Murders at Karlov Manor is a Magic: The Gathering expansion set. It is not part of a block and was released on February 9, 2024.[3]
Setting
[edit]The story of Murders at Karlov Manor takes place on Ravnica and was published in form of 11 blog posts written by Seanan McGuire.[4] The plot revolves around the Ravnican Agency of Magicological Investigations, which has been assigned to look into a series of (attempted) murders that have taken place throughout Ravnica.[5]
Gameplay
[edit]The set introduces multiple new keyword abilities and a new enchantment type:[6]
- A creature with disguise X can be put on the battlefield face down as a 2/2 colorless, typeless creature with ward 2, by paying 3 mana. To flip the creature face up X mana has to be paid. Disguise is an upgraded version of morph from Onslaught.
- Cloak allows a player to put a card onto the battlefield face down. A face-down card is a 2/2 colorless creature with no creature types and ward 2. To turn a cloaked creature face up, their normal mana value needs to be paid. Cloak is thus an upgraded version of manifest from Fate Reforged.
- Investigate is a deciduous keyword, that was first introduced in Shadows over Innistrad. When it is triggered, a Clue token is created. That token can be sacrificed to draw a card.
- Suspecting a creature will give that creature a new designation: suspected. A suspected creature has menace and can't block.
- Collect evidence X is a cost that a player may be asked to pay in various contexts. This is done by exiling cards from the graveyard with a combined mana value of at least X.
- Cases are a new type of enchantments. A case has three abilities. The first ability is always active. The middle ability sets out the conditions, that have to be met in order to "solve the case". Once the conditions have been met, the bottom ability is activated.
