National Award is an honorary award given to individuals and various organizations in recognition of their outstanding contribution in various fields of national life of any country or nation.[1]

National awards are divided into two categories depending on the awardee:

  • Award given by government and
  • Privately awarded awards.

Bangladesh[edit]

A gold medal awarded to the recipient of “Independence Award” known as one of the main national and highest civilian awards of Bangladesh.

Medals and awards payable[edit]

As per the revised instructions regarding National Awards/Medals issued by the Cabinet Division on 14 November 2019, the award/medals payable to the recipient are as under:[4]

  • Independence Award : A medal made of fifty grams of eighteen carat gold, a replica of the medal, five lakh rupees, and a citation.
  • Ekushey Padak : A medal made of thirty-five grams of eighteen carat gold, a replica of the medal, four lakhs of rupees, and a citation.
  • Bangabandhu National Agricultural Award: The Bangabandhu National Agricultural Award will be determined as per Trust Act 2016.
  • Begum Rokeya Medal: A medal made of twenty-five grams of eighteen carat gold, a replica of the medal, four lakhs of rupees, and a citation.
  • National Film Award : A medal made of twenty-five grams of eighteen carat gold, a replica of the medal, a citation and (a) a lifetime award of Rs.three lakhs; (b) Two lakh rupees to the producer of the best full-length film; (c) two lakh rupees to the best short film producer; (d) Two lakh rupees to the best documentary film producer; (e) Two lakh rupees to the best film director; (f) In other cases one lakh rupees.
  • National Sports Award: A medal made of twenty-five grams of eighteen carat gold, one lakh rupees, and a citation.
