Universal Basic Guys is an American animated sitcom created by Adam and Craig Malamut that premiered on September 8, 2024 on Fox.[1] The show centers around a group of Pennsylvania factory workers who are enrolled in a Universal Basic Income pilot program when their jobs are taken over by AI-powered robots, and left with a monthly income and a lot of free time to get into trouble.

It received mixed reviews from critics.

At the restaurant Tammy saves a stranger from choking, Mark do not care until Tammy get gifts from him which Mark plans to be a hero to save a life. Mark along with help from Hank wait at road known for accidents and a car crash, Mark attempts to save the driver until the firefighters arrive to do their job. Mark buys and use the tool jaws of life to save boy who got his head stuck in a jungle gym but the firefighters arrive and arguing with a certain firefighter causes Mark to get stuck with the tool. Tammy meets the stranger named Paul again who buys coffee for her but acts strange, Mark gets freed but is mocked by the same firefighter, with a help of their friend Mark gets a powered exoskeleton. Tammy keeps getting visits and gifts from Paul who do not stop, Tammy realizes that Paul is obssesed with her. Mark causes destruction than helping and goes to save children from a school bus crash. Tammy see more that Paul is stalker and even comes trough the chimney, Tammy has had enough and tells him to leave her alone, Paul turns out to be crazy. Mark and Hank arrive to the school bus and the firefighters have already saved them, Paul drives to Tammy to kill her but crashes into a pond, Mark then saves Paul but a hotdog is shot into his throat and Mark is done trying to save people, the firefighter who mocked Mark earlier saves Paul and becomes his "new hero". At the restaurant Mark and Tammy talk about Mark learning in a CPR class, on the news says the firefighter killed Paul with an axe after he invaded his home through the chimney.

In November 2022, it was announced that Game of Zones creators and executive producer Adam and Craig Malamut were set up on an animated series on Fox, called Universal Basic Guys/The Hoagie Bros. The series is produced by Leith Hill Productions, Fox Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television, with Bento Box Entertainment providing the animation.[7] In May 2024, the series was retitled to Universal Basic Guys and renewed for a second season ahead of its debut in the fall.[8] Dan Lagana serves as an executive producer and the showrunner for the first season while Rob Rosell is an executive producer and the showrunner for the second season.[9]

Casting

On July 25, 2024, at San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Adam Malamut, Talia Genevieve, Fred Armisen, and Ally Maki were cast in starring roles.[10]

The series premiered on September 8, 2024 on Fox.[8][1]

Reception

The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 20% approval rating based on 5 critic reviews.[11] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 41 out of 100 based on 5 critics, indicating "mixed or average" reviews.[12]
