Zbigniew Jankowski (26 December 1931 – 6 July 2024) was a Polish poet, writer, essayist, literary critic.[1]

Life and career

Zbigniew Jankowski was born in Bydgoszcz, in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland on 26 December 1931.[2] He made his debut as a poet in 1956.[3] He was the organizer and the first president of the Literary Club "Kontakty" in Rybnik,[4] the creator of the poetic and artistic group "Reda" in Kołobrzeg,[5] the organizer and president of the Lower Silesian Branch of the Association of Polish Mariners,[6] animator Of the Academic Literary Circle formed at Basilica of St. St. Nicholas in Gdańsk.[7][8] Member PEN Club, founding member Stowarzyszenie Pisarzy Polskich, ("Association of Polish Writers").[9] From 1975 he lived in Sopot.[10] Three times nominated for Orpheus - Poetic Award of K.I. Gałczyński.[11][12][13] Poet's husband Teresa Ferenc,[14] father of the poet Anna Janko.[15][16]

In 2016, Zbigniew Jankowski was awarded the silver "Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis".[17][18]

Zbigniew Jankowski's work has been translated into English, German, Russian, Swedish, Greek, French, Czech, Serbian[19]

Jankowski died on 6 July 2024, at the age of 92.[20]
