The massacre at Zikim Beach is a massacre.[1] carried out by the terrorist organization Hamas on the morning of Simchat Torah, October 7, 2023, at Zikim Beach near the border fence in the northern Gaza Strip, as part of a surprise attack on Israel.

Background[edit]

On the morning of Simchat Torah, Saturday, October 7, 2023, the terrorist organizations Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad launched an attack on Israel. Under the cover of firing thousands of rockets, approximately 3,000 terrorists infiltrated dozens of Israeli settlements and military installations in and around Gaza, while Conducting firefights against weak security forces. The terrorists committed massacres and rapes, murdered over 1200 people[2][3], among them over 850 civilians according to different sources, and kidnapped 248 people to the Gaza Strip, including women, the elderly, and babies. In the first hours, the standby units, Israel Police officers, IDF soldiers, and IDF soldiers fought against them[4]. When they are outnumbered. In the battles, approximately 1,550 terrorists were killed in Israeli territory, 55 policemen, 10 members of the General Security Service and 301 soldiers.

The massacre[edit]

On the morning of the attack, marine commando squads of terrorists from the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of Hamas, landed on Zikim Beach, which is the southernmost beach on Israel's Mediterranean coast.

According to a report from October 19, terrorists who managed to reach the beach murdered about 10 to 15 civilians who were on the beach. About 20 to 30 civilians who were on the beach fled from the terrorists and found shelter in the Zikim camp. A handful of Israeli officers saved about 90 new recruits from Hamas terrorists; they paid with their lives[5]

Ten civilians who were on the beach on the morning of October 7 were considered missing and later it was learned that 9 of them were among the murdered. They were murdered after the terrorists threw grenades into the shelter where they were staying[6][7]. On October 16 they were located and notices were sent to the families on October 26.

Losses and casualties[edit]

There are a number of sources that report on the number of people that were murdered during the massacres.

Haaretz's website has published the names of all the victims who lost their lives in the brutal attack by Hamas on October 7th[8]. By applying filters, you can specifically identify the 19 individuals who were tragically killed at Zikim Beach on that fateful day.
