A diesel is an electric with short transmission lines. 2.A diesel is also capable of regenetive braking; no-one has built a hybid diesel yet. 3. What "reciprocating parts" does a diesel have that "cause wear on the track"? That's steam locomotives. 4. An electric is limited by traction motor power; it's not infinitely powerful. 5.   • curprev 04:0404:04, 25 April 2018 Idumea47b talk contribs 55,784 bytes +162 Making more clear the fact that neglecting to include the inefficiency of generating the power for an electric locomotive is very unfair to diesels, which only differ in that they carry their generators onboard. If one had to include the inefficiency of the generation source for an electric, it would make the comparison far more relevant. In every other aspect a diesel "benefits from the efficiency of electric motors" identically to an electric locomotive. Which is why they aren't mechanical. undo Tag: Visual edit
