Ermin Šiljak (born 11 May 1973 in Ljubljana) is a former Slovenian football player. He is renowned as a great finisher, and has top off the ball instincts to get into scoring positions.
Club career
He started his professional career at NK Svoboda. Later he has played for clubs such as NK Olimpija, SC Bastia (France), Servette FC Geneva (Switzerland), Hammarby IF (Sweden), Panionios FC (Greece), Dalian Shide (China) and R.E.Mouscron (Belgium).
Managing career
Early career
He managed Slovenian under-16 and under-19 national teams.
Ermin Šiljak was a manager of Olimpija Ljubljana in 2012.
Botev Plovdiv
Ermin Šiljak joined Botev Plovdiv on July 2015.[1] He made a debut in a match against the local rivals Lokomotiv Plovdiv. Plovdiv derby ended in a 1-1 draw.[2]
Šiljak achieved 5 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses in his first 13 games as a manager of Botev Plovdiv in A Grupa.[3] On 27 October, Botev Plovdiv was shockingly eliminated on the 1/8 finals of the Bulgarian Cup after 0-1 defeat by the outsiders FC Sozopol.[4] After that Šiljak took the controversial decision to expel Yordan Hristov, Mariyan Ognyanov, Plamen Nikolov and Joël Tshibamba from the first team.[5] The changes did not lead to any positive results with young players and his team lost twice in a row in A Grupa: 2-0 away defeat from Slavia Sofia and 1-3 home defeat from Beroe Stara Zagora.[6][7]
After less than 6 months, at the end of November 2015, Ermin Šiljak resigned as manager of Botev Plovdiv.[8]
Dalian Transcendence
On April 21, 2016, China League One club Dalian Transcendence signed Ermin Šiljak as manager for two years.[9] By August however, Šiljak was sacked by the team.[10]
