Fruitville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 13,224 at the 2010 census.[3] It is part of the BradentonSarasotaVenice Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Fruitville is located at 27°19′50″N 82°27′42″W / 27.33056°N 82.46167°W / 27.33056; -82.46167 (27.330573, -82.461553).[4]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.1 square miles (18.4 km2), of which 6.8 square miles (17.6 km2) is land and 0.31 square miles (0.8 km2), or 4.43%, is water.[3]

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 12,741 people, 5,176 households, and 3,483 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,809.9 people per square mile (698.8/km²). There were 5,476 housing units at an average density of 777.9/sq mi (300.3/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.64% White, 1.31% African American, 0.17% Native American, 1.18% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.86% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.07% of the population.

There were 5,176 households out of which 31.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.4% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% were non-families. 25.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.93.

In the CDP, the population was spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.0 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $51,449, and the median income for a family was $58,300. Males had a median income of $37,620 versus $30,317 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $25,010. About 4.8% of families and 4.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.9% of those under age 18 and 4.8% of those age 65 or over.

Fruitville was originally settled by farming families in the early 1920s.
