Marius George Țucudean (Romanian pronunciation: [ˈmari.us ˈd͡ʒe̯ord͡ʒe t͡sukuˈde̯an]; born 30 April 1991) is a Romanian professional footballer who plays for CFR Cluj as a striker.
Club career
UTA Arad
Țucudean started his career playing for his hometown club UTA Arad.[1] He stayed at UTA for two years before joining Liga I squad Dinamo Bucureşti.[2]
Dinamo București
He made his debut at his new team on April 1, 2011 in a game against Universitatea Cluj.[3]
Although young, Țucudean made an immediate impact at the Bucharest team by scoring 4 goals from 13 appearances in the second half of the 2010–11 season.[4] In his first full season for the team, he made 30 appearances allround and scored 4 goals, also making his UEFA Europa League debut.[5]
On 14 July 2012, Țucudean scored two goals in the 2012 Romanian Supercup against CFR Cluj,[6] in a game that Dinamo București won at penalty shoot-out to claim the trophy.[7] He was declared man of the match for his performance.[8] On Dinamo's first home game of the 2012–13 Liga I played against CSMS Iași on the 29th of July, Țucudean had a magistral performance, scoring four goals and offering one assist in just 52 minutes of play.[9][10]
Standard Liège
On 31 January 2013, Țucudean was bought by Standard Liège, where he signed a contract for four and a half years.[11]
On 28 August 2013, he was loaned out for 2013–14 Liga I season to Dinamo, the team from he was transferred to Standard Liège.
Charlton Athletic
In July 2014 he signed a three-year deal to play for English side Charlton Athletic.[12] He scored his first goal for the club in a 3–2 win over Derby County on 19 August 2014.[13] He scored his second goal to open up the scoring in a 2–1 win over Bolton Wanderers on 21 October 2014 before assisting Johnnie Jackson to score the second goal.[14] During a local derby versus Millwall he missed an absolute sitter and was banished on loan to see out his contract.
On 28 January 2015, he was loaned with an option-to-buy until the end of June 2016 to the rival of his former team Dinamo, Steaua București.[15] In September 2015, Steaua cancelled the loan. His contract with Charlton was cancelled on 1 July 2016.[16]
Viitorul Constanța
On 22 March 2017, Țucudean signed with Viitorul Constanța.
CFR Cluj
Țucudean joined CFR Cluj for a reported 1 million euros on 8 January 2018.[17][18]
International career
Țucudean is a former Romania under-17 and under-19 international, having played 3 and 5 games respectively.[19] He scored three goals for the under-21 side as well.
He scored his first goal for the senior team in a 2–1 victory over Israel, on 24 March 2018.[20]
Personal life
Țucudean comes from a wealthy family, his family fortune being estimated between €80 million and €100 million by Romanian press.[21][22] His father, Marius, was also a footballer who played as a striker at UTA Arad; he made appearances in the top division, but was diagnosed with a heart disorder which made him retire at age 27.[23]
