International School – Zurich North (ISZN) is a multi-cultural day school located in Wallisellen, a north-eastern quarter of Zurich, Switzerland. The school offers classes for students from kindergarten up to high school. The school’s community consists of over 200 students aged between 3 and 18 years from over 35 different countries.[citation needed]

ISZN’s education system comprises classes with study material created from research and national and international teaching systems. Students who pass grade 10 undergo a 2-year programme, which leads up to the Cambridge International Examinations, IGCSEs.[citation needed]

History

International School - Zurich North was founded in 1999 in Wallisellen, which is three train stops away from the center of Zurich. The school was founded with the intention of providing Pre-School, Primary, and Middle School education. The school wanted to focus on to the growing multinational community, which had developed in and around North-East Zurich. The school started with a modern building for primary students and later a separate High School Building was added to the Wallisellen campus in 2010.[citation needed]

Accreditation

By Swiss Authorities

ISZN's Kindergarten and primary education programs (Primary Years Programme) are approved by the bureau for elementary school (Volksschulamt), administration for education (Bildungsdirektion), canton of Zurich.[1]

Also ISZN's lower secondary education program (Secondary School Programme, Grade 6 to 8) is approved by the bureau for elementary school (Volksschulamt), administration for education (Bildungsdirektion), canton of Zurich as Sekundarstufe.[1]

However ISZN's upper secondary education programs (Middle School Programme, grades 9 to 10, High School Programme, grades 10 to 12) are neither approved as a Mittelschule by the bureau for gymnasial and vocational education (Mittelschul- und Berufsbildungsamt), administration of education (Bildungsdirektion), canton of Zurich, nor approved by the Swiss Federal State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).[2][3]

By International Authorities

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is the established worldwide standard for an educational programme at the Primary level, offered by international schools. The International Baccalaureate (IB) organization gave ISZN authorization to offer the Primary Years Programme in 2006.[citation needed]

Campuses and Facilities

The ISZN campus comprises two buildings. One building is utilized for Primary schooling, while a second building houses the Secondary school.

The campus includes multipurpose halls, performance stages, science and computer laboratories, a playground, and a spacious cafeteria. The institute also provides students access to local gymnasiums, swimming pools, sports grounds, and ice skating rinks in Wallisellen.
