Kingsmead School is a mixedl secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in the Enfield Town area of the London Borough of Enfield, England.

The school converted to academy status in February 2012, and was previously a community school under the direct control of Enfield London Borough Council. Kingsmead School is highly diverse, almost half of pupils do not speak English as a first language and a further third have special educational needs.[1]

Kingsmead School offers GCSEs and OCR Nationals as programmes of study for pupils, while sixth form students can choose to study from range of A Levels. The school has a specialism in Performing and Visual Arts, and has additional facilities for the specialisms.[2]

In 2007, Kingsmead School was the first school in Enfield to be rated 'outstanding' in all categories assessed by Ofsted after a new rating system was introduced.[3] In 2008, students from the school appeared in the Sky1 television series Hairspray: The School Musical.[4] Giles Bird, a former headteacher, was also awarded a CBE for services to education carried out on behalf of the organisation ASCL.[5]

In 2012, the Lord Hill of Oareford, Leader of the House of Lords visited the school, stating he was impressed with the "vibrant teaching and learning environment".[6] Later, Nick de Bois also visited the school after it became one of the first schools in the United Kingdom to achieve academy status.[7]

In 2013, the school also received an overall rating of 'good' in an Ofsted inspection report, a decrease from the rating received five years earlier.[8][9][10][11]
