Liquefied natural gas is used to transport natural gas over long distances, often by sea. In most cases, LNG terminals are purpose built ports used exclusively to export or import LNG.

• Broadwater Energy, proposed floating terminal in Long Island Sound between New York State and Connecticut
• Crown Landing LNG Terminal, Gloucester County, New Jersey - A proposed LNG terminal to be located along the Delaware River. BP is working for regulatory approval and the LNG terminal is expected to be online by the end of 2008.
• BlueOcean Energy, 20 miles off-shore from New Jersey
