"Lost in Your Light"
Song

"Lost in Your Light" is a song by English singer Dua Lipa, featuring American singer Miguel. The song was released on 21 April 2017 as the fifth single from Lipa's eponymous debut studio album.[1][2][3] It was released as an instant-grat track to those who pre-ordered the song on the iTunes Store.[4] The song was written by Lipa, Miguel, and Rick Nowels, while production was handled by Miguel and Stephen "Koz" Kozmeniuk. The accompanying music video, directed by Henry Schofield,[5] was filmed in Los Angeles and premiered on 26 May 2017.[6]

Composition

"Lost in Your Light" is an electropop,[2] synth-pop[6] and dance-pop[7] song. According to Rolling Stone, Lipa and Miguel harmonize over throbbing synthesizer and funky drum kit flourishes.[2] Containing a percussion heavy beat, the song lyrically speaks about true infatuation.[8]

Critical reception

Olivia Craighead of The Fader called the song a "pop banger", and additionally praised the chorus as "catchy".[8] Rap-Up praised the song for being a "feel-good jam", while additionally giving praise to Lipa and Miguel for their vocal performances.[1] Tom Breihan, writing for Stereogum, had a more lukewarm reaction to Miguel's guest appearance: "the song is a full-on duet, and while Miguel's voice sounds better making smoky soul music than straightforward dance-pop, he gives it his all."[7] The song was placed 34th in Rolling Stone's "50 Best Songs of 2017", with its description being that it's "a starlit rollerskating jam about love's all-consuming joys, this collaboration between up-from-YouTube diva Dua Lipa and R&B polymath Miguel gets its kicks from its depths-plumbing groove and the crazy-in-love vocals of its two principals."
