MS Symphony of the Seas is an Template:Sclass- owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International.[3] As of 9 June 2017, she is the largest passenger ship ever to be constructed by gross tonnage, at 228,021 GRT, surpassing her sister Harmony of the Seas.
Symphony of the Seas is currently being built in the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France.[4] She will be the fourth in its Oasis-class series.
Construction timeline
- On 29 October 2015, the keel was laid.
- On 9 June 2017, she was floated out.[5]
- Between 15 to 18 February 2018, she conducted sea trials.[6]
- In March 2018, she is scheduled to enter service.
Description
Symphony of the Seas measures 1,188 feet (362 m) in length and will have a capacity of 228,021 gross register tons across 18 decks. She will be able to accommodate 5,518 passengers at double occupancy up to a maximum capacity of 6,680 passengers, as well as a 2,200-person crew.[2]
Facilities will include a children's water park, a full-size basketball court, ice-skating rink, and two 43-foot rock-climbing walls.[7][8]
Route
During her first season Symphony of the Seas will sail from Barcelona, Spain on 7 night Western Mediterranean cruises. On 28 October 2018, she will reposition to her home port, the Port of Miami in Florida, United States. In November 2018, she will begin Caribbean cruises.[9]
