Sarah Margaret Qualley (born October 23, 1994),[1] known as Margaret Qualley, is an American actress and model best known for playing Jill Garvey on the HBO television series, The Leftovers.

Early life

Qualley was born in 1994 in Montana, the daughter of Andie MacDowell, an actress and model, and Paul Qualley, who is a model, musician, contractor, and rancher.[2] Her sister, Rainey, is also an actress, dancer and model.[3][4]

Education and training

As a teenager growing up in Asheville, North Carolina,[5] she was a debutante, along with her sister, and made her debut at the Bal des débutantes in Paris.[6] She trained as a ballerina, earning an apprenticeship at the American Ballet Theatre and studying at New York's French Academy.[citation needed]

However, at the age of 17, following an offer to become an apprentice with the North Carolina Dance Theater company, Qualley changed her focus to acting and attended London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art summer program.[7][8]

Career

Modeling

In 2011, Qualley made her modeling debut at the age of 16 during New York Fashion Week, walking for Alberta Ferretti.[9]

She is currently signed with IMG Models and Uno Models Barcelona.[10][11]

Acting

Qualley first appeared on screen in 2013 playing a small part in Gia Coppola's film Palo Alto.[12] In June 2013, she was cast as a series regular in the HBO television series The Leftovers.[13]

In 2016, she appeared in Shane Black's comedy The Nice Guys.[14] She is set to star in Adam Wingard's Death Note.[15]

In April 2016, Qualley was announced to have joined the cast of Shawn Christensen's Sidney Hall.[16]

In the media

Qualley appears as the central character in a Spike Jonze-directed commercial for KENZO World.[17]

The short film/ad was choreographed by Ryan Heffington. However, much of the dance routine was improvised by Qualley herself, who trained as a classical ballet dancer[18]
