Miss Korea 2021
On October 15, Choi won as Miss Gyeonggi Incheon 2021, a Miss Korea regional preliminary.[7] She participated in Miss Korea 2021 on November 16 and finished 1st Runner-up.[8][9]
Miss Earth 2022
On November 29, Choi represented South Korea in Miss Earth 2022 and competed with more than 80 delegates from various countries/territories.
During the course of the preliminary events, she won the following awards:
- Swimsuit competition (Asia & Oceania)[10]
- Beach wear competition (Air Group)[11]
- Long gown competition (Air Group)[12]
- Resort wear competition (Air Group)
- Miss Mexico, Pampanga 2022
During the course of the final competition, she passed all rounds, including both the swimsuit and evening gown portions. At the Hashtag portion, she received "#Loyalty" as she moved towards Top 8. She said:
I think it's very important to be loyal to the ones we love and especially our Earth, as we live and reside in this single planet called Earth. With loyalty, I believe we can do better to collectively share across minds across the world to help this world, not just the environment but more than that. Because there are so many things that are intrinsically-related to the Earth – social, political, historical issues, and the war as well. So let's be loyal to each other and share some love.
She eventually made it to Top 4. At Question and Answer portion, they were all asked: "What is one thing that you want to correct in this world and how would you correct it?," to which she answered:
If there's something I would correct in this world it would be being emphathetic. We often mistake kindness as being empathetic but what being empathetic is putting yourself into someone else's shoes and when it comes to climate issues and other issues in this world one has to be empathetic. You really need to see how the other persons perceive this world, you need to understand their pain by being in their shoes and that like I feel like the first with being empathetic, kindness and empathetic can be different.
At the end of the event, she was crowned Miss Earth 2022, succeeding Miss Earth 2021 Destiny Wagner of Belize. She became the first Korean to win the Miss Earth title and the first Korean to win any of the Big Four international beauty pageants.[13][14]
