Muhammed Metha (Mu Metha) is a Tamil poet and songwriter. He was born in Madurai in 1945. He popularised modern poetry (Pudukavithai) in the 1970s and has written more than 30 books, including novels, short stories and essays. His awards include the Bharathidasan Award from the state government of Tamil Nadu. He is also credited with 400 songs for films. poet mu.metha participate in "vanampaadi" literary movement.That movement has the aim of writing poems in the view of Marxism and world wide vision.

Metha was a professor of tamil for 35 years at Presidency College, Chennai.
