The National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand (also known as NIT Uttarakhand or NITUK) is a public engineering institution in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It was founded in 2010,[2] as one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India, and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance. It admitted its first batch of students in 2010-11.[3][4]

The temporary campus is located in Govt. ITI, Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal district. Srinagar Garhwal is 105 kilometres (65 mi) from Rishikesh on National Highway 58 leading to Badrinath. Rishikesh railway station is the nearest railway station. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, 125 kilometres (78 mi) from Srinagar.

Admissions

Since 2013, the Bachelor of Technology admissions for Indian students were based on the Joint Entrance Examination MAIN, with ranks given after considering 60% of the marks scored in the test, and 40% in the class 12 Board examinations.[5] The B. Tech admissions for foreign students are done through Direct Admission of Students Abroad(DASA)Scheme.[6]

The university offers degrees in Sciences & Humanities (2010), Computer Science engineering (2010), Electrical and Electronic engineering (2010), Electronics and Communication Engineering (2010), Mechanical Engineering (2012) and Civil Engineering (2013).[4]

Student life

The annual technocultural festival "Cliffesto", previously called "PRODAYA", is generally held in February.

Other cultural activities include Fresher's Night (Pravartak), Institute Gathering (SPARK), and departmental gatherings

Departments also hold workshops, guest lectures, various competitions, and SAE[disambiguation needed] participation.

Sports facilities include cricket, volleyball, badminton, basketball, table tennis, football, poker, kabbadi, and carrom. The Institute has purchased five set of skis and accessories, for students wishing to go to Auli for skiing in February.

Music all around

The Institute has also purchased two rafts and two kayaks for rafting in the Alaknanda River at Srinagar under certified experts' supervision.[7]

The institute also has a gymnasium, music club, theater workshop, photography club, quizzing and awareness club, literary society club, drama club, astronomy club, verbatim-the speakers club and robotics club.

Placements

The 2015 second batch of students from the Institute got a large fraction[quantify] of the students placed. Students got placement offers from companies including the NSE, Ramco Systems, Venera, Infosys, Mu Sigma and Nucleus Software Exports, and organisations including CodeChef and the DRDO also visited the college.
