Novyi Kanal (Ukrainian: Новий Канал) is a Ukrainian television channel.
History
The channel was launched on August 15, 1998[citation needed]. At first, it was broadcast only in Kyiv, but since 1999, it has extended its range to six other regions of Ukraine, and from 2000, has been received in more than 17 major cities. Since December 20, 2000, it has been transmitted by satellite.
From 2002, Novyi Kanal was third in Ukrainian television ratings after Inter and 1+1. But the channel's ratings have steadily decreased in recent years: 10,11% in 2004, 9,1% in 2005, 8,5% in 2006, and in 2007, only 7,42%.
Related to the Crimean crises 2014 Novyi Kanal broadcasts in Sevastopol ended on 9 March 2014, 14:30 o'clock East European time [1]
Personalities
In 1999-2004 the channel was headed by Oleksandr Tkachenko . In 2005-2012 the Novyi was run by Iryna Lysenko It has been run by Volodymyr Lokotko since May, 2012.
Since 1998 many prominent journalists have worked at the channel, including Andriy Kulykov, Andriy Shevchenko, Hanna Homonai, Lidiya Taran, and Sviatoslav Tseholko.
Origin content
According to the results of monitoring made by "Boycott Russian Films" campaign activists during the period from 8th to 14th of September, 2014 there was demonstrated 7 h 35 min of Russian content per day.[2][3]
