Miami Dolphins

Vernon declared early for the 2012 NFL Draft and was the 72nd pick overall by the Miami Dolphins.[2][3] His 3rd round selection ended a drought of 8 years without the Dolphins picking a player from the University of Miami. The last one had been Vernon Carey in 2004.

Vernon scored his first NFL touchdown against the New York Jets on October 28, 2012, recovering a punt blocked by Jimmy Wilson in the end zone. In the same game, he blocked a field goal in the final seconds of the second half.

New York Giants

In 2016, Vernon signed a five-year deal with the New York Giants for $85 million with $52.5 million guaranteed.[4] In his first season with the Giants, Vernon started all 16 games recording a career-high 63 tackles with 8.5 sacks, earning him second-team All-Pro.

After the Giants switched to a 3-4 defense under Pat Shurmur, Vernon moved to outside linebacker.
