2017 Palarong Pambansa

The 2017 Palarong Pambansa will be the 60th edition of the Palarong Pambansa. Student athletes from 18 athletic associations representing the eighteen (18) regions of the Philippines will compete in different sporting events and discipline.

Bidding

Two provinces remains after Negros Occidental, Cebu and Iloilo backed-out in bidding for the hosting of the annual multi-sports event in 2017 due to budget difficulties, San Jose de Buenavista, Antique and Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental showed interest to host the event and officially submitted their respective bids to the Palarong Pambansa bids and selection committee. On November 18, 2016, the Palarong Pambansa Selection Committee held a voting to choose the official host of the next Palarong Pambansa. San Jose de Buenavista, Antique won the bidding with 5 votes against 4 votes of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental and is officially declared as the host of Palarong Pambansa 2017.[1]

Plan for the games

Antique's bid includes plans to make a new sports facility to be constructed in San Jose de Buenavista as the main venue of the games. Two newly constructed facilities - a swimming pool and a tennis court will be used, while several indoor sporting events will be held in a university in San Jose de Buenavista.

Sports

In this year's Palaro, there will be 1,095 medals to be given away to the winners and the runner-ups in the following sporting disciplines to be contested in the competition. These are 151 golds, 151 silvers and 183 golds in the elementary division, while 187 golds, 187 silvers and 236 golds in the secondary division.[2]

Regular Games

Futsal is elevated from being a demonstration sport and will be played as a regular sports discipline for the first time.

Demonstration Games

These are the demonstration sports for this year's Palarong Pambansa. The organizing committee will evaluate all 4 demo sports whether they will elevated their status into a regular sport or it will scrapped instead.[3]

A total of 18 athletic associations coming from 18 regions will be participating in the 7-day athletic meet.
