Papá a toda madre is a Mexican comedy telenovela that premiered on Las Estrellas on October 22, 2017. Produced for Televisa by Eduardo Meza. The telenovela revolves around 4 dads of different ages and a gay couple, who have a radical change in their lives by assuming their role as parents.

It stars Sebastián Rulli and Maite Perroni as main characters, along to Sergio Mur, Mark Tacher, Raúl Araiza, Juan Carlos Barreto, Verónica Jaspeado, Michelle González, Ana La Salvia, Andrés Zuno and Raúl Coronado, and with them Fernanda Urdapilleta, Yankei Stevan, Marcelo Bacerlo, Patricio de la Garza, Victoria Viera, and the debut of Regina Graniewicz.

Plot

The telenovela revolves around 4 dads of different ages and a gay couple, who have a radical change in their lives by assuming their role as parents; Mauricio López-Garza (Sebastián Rulli) is a handsome and charming man who works in a children's toy store, but who—paradoxically—does not support children, only lives on wasting money and enjoying the good life. Mauricio is accustomed to having others solve their problems; so his toy company is managed by Fabián Carbajal (Mark Tacher), his best friend since childhood. After a while the company of Mauricio is in bankruptcy and his salary decreases so he decides to undertake a search to marry a woman who has an economic position and that can get him out of all his financial problems. Arriving the day that Mauricio finally finds the woman with whom he would marry, just the day of his wedding appears Anifer (Regina Graniewicz), who interrupts the wedding, with the excuses that Mauricio is his father. After the scandal, Mauricio's wedding is suspended and as a result of this he is in need of taking care of his daughter, but the problems soon begin when he is forced to pay all his debts and his company goes bankrupt, after this Mauricio must go to live to a vanquished where his neighbors are those workers that he dismissed of his company Logatoys without just reasons. In his new home with his daughter, Mauricio must live with his new neighbors and that is where he meets Renée (Maite Perroni), a young and beautiful teacher, who does not believe in love, falls in love with him and decides to help him with his daughter and turn him into a good man.[2]

On the other hand they are Jorge Turrubiates (Sergio Mur), a strict and conservative lawyer, who to the divorce of his wife is left in charge of his two children who, to their bad luck, are entering the full age of adolescence. Toño Barrientos (Raúl Araiza), a computer engineer who has exchanged roles with his wife, who will now be the provider of the home giving him the role of "master of home", leaving him in the care of his three children. Nerón Machuca (Juan Carlos Barreto), a widower who, despite believing that his father's labors are finished—his children are already older—and for the love of a woman twenty years his junior, returns to be the father of a beautiful baby whom they often confuse with his granddaughter and finally Rafael Restrepo (Andrés Zuno) and Rodrigo Conde (Raúl Coronado) a gay couple that seeks to form a family and adopt a son.[2]

Production

The start of production of the telenovela was confirmed on August 17, 2017,[3]but previously production began on August 14, 2017.[4] The telenovelas is created by Pedro Armando Rodríguez and Montserrat Gómez García,[5] and written by Alejandra Romero, Humberto Robles and Héctor Valdés,[3]and directed by Benjamín Cann and Rodrigo Zaunbos.[3]

The telenovela trailer was released in May 2017, during Univision's upfront for the 2017-2018 television season.[6] Where only Sebastián Rulli and Lara Campos are shown,[6] Campos previously appeared in La doble vida de Estela Carrillo.[7] On October 19, 2017, it was confirmed that the telenovela would be the first telenovela of Televisa, in showing a gay couple looking to form a home.[8][9]

Casting

On August 9, 2017, it was confirmed that Sebastián Rulli and Maite Perroni would be the protagonists of the telenovela.[10] On August 11, 2017, was confirmed to Regina Graniewicz or Soto as Anifer.[11][12] On August 30, 2017, Mark Tacher was confirmed as a villain of the history.[13] The rest of the protagonists are formed by Sergio Mur, who makes his debut on Televisa, after being on Telemundo.[14] Raúl Araiza who returns to the television after being absent and Juan Carlos Barreto.[15][16]

Controversy

The company CitizenGo, launched through its website a request that calls for the telenovela to be taken off the air, because Televisa wants to normalize homosexuality as normal in society.[17] Due to this controversy People en Español announced the news and created a meeting similarly asking the readers without signing the proposal.[18] The petition to sign for the telenovela to be taken out of the air, says the following:

I am concerned that they intend to normalize homosexuality in Mexico against the majority feeling of citizenship and its audience.

You know very well the pedagogical power of your telenovelas.

I do not want anyone to be discriminated against socially, at work or politically because of their sexual orientation. But presenting a homosexual couple as an attractive model is different. Is this the new corporate strategy of Televisa?

They defrauded me. I thought that Televisa aspired to build a better society, to strengthen the family as the basic cell of Mexican society. I thought it was true that they affirm that their values are credibility, honesty and professionalism ...

Unfortunately I was wrong. Of course, I will not see the controversial telenovela. But neither his channel. I distrust your ethical criteria and there are other alternatives for leisure.[19]

Rating

The telenovela premiered on Sunday October 22, 2017, at the end of Mi marido tiene familia.[20]

Before the possible bankruptcy of Logatoys, Mauricio and Fabián plan to save the company bringing powerful investors who inject capital. Unfortunately, Mauricio hates children and the presentation to millionaire entrepreneurs becomes a disaster. Mauricio does not surrender and sees another opportunity to have to conquer the daughter of one of the investors. This is how Mauricio begins to court her until she agrees to go out with him, as they both share the idea that children are the worst thing that can exist in life.

Meanwhile the paternity test was positive, so Mauricio must take responsibility for Anifer and take care of her until her mother appears.

Mauricio is looking for investors to save Logatoys, receives the tempting offer to sell the company, but he refuses, says his company only needs a bit of capital but is not in danger. Fabián claims that he did not take advantage of the great offer they have just received, he believes it was because he is thinking about the future of Anifer and wants to inherit the factory from his daughter. Afterwards, Mauricio changes his mind and decides to leave behind the nostalgia and sell the company, but it takes a great surprise to discover that there is a clause in the will that prevents it.
