Ron Estes (born July 19, 1956) is the Kansas State Treasurer. He was sworn in January 10, 2011, as the 39th Treasurer of the state of Kansas, having defeated the incumbent, Dennis McKinney, in the election. Ron Estes is the first statewide elected official from Wichita, Kansas in two decades. Prior to taking office as Kansas State Treasurer, he served two terms as Treasurer of Sedgwick County, Kansas, having been elected to that post in 2004, and subsequently reelected in 2008. During his political career, he also served as the Treasurer for the Kansas County Treasurer's Association, and in several posts in the Republican Party including Vice Chair of the Kansas Republican Party.
Prior to becoming Sedgwick County Treasurer, he worked in consulting and management roles in the aerospace, oil and gas, automotive, and several other manufacturing and service industries.
His educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's Degree in Business Administration, both from Tennessee Technological University.
Ron was born in Topeka and is a 5th generation Kansan. His family continues to run a farm in Osage County. Ron and his wife, Susan, have three children.[1]
