Ron Parker (born August 17, 1987) is an American football strong safety for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL). He was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He played college football for Newberry College and has played for the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks.

Early years

Parker's father, Ronzo, was a truck driver and his mother Rose, worked at a Montessori public school. Parker was raised near Beaufort, South Carolina.[1]

College

In 2009, Parker was selected to the first team All-American by Don Hansen's Football Gazette and to the second team All-American by D2Football.com and Daktronics.[2] Parker also was selected to the first team all-Super Region selection by Daktronics and also was named to the all-South Atlantic Conference first team.[2] Parker was selected to the first team All-American by D2Football.com and Don Hansen's Football Gazette.[2] Parker was selected to the second team All-American by Daktronics and a third team Little All-American by the Associated Press following his senior season.[2]

Professional career

Seattle Seahawks

Parker was signed by the Seahawks as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2011 NFL Draft. He was released on August 31, 2011 and was signed to the practice squad on September 5th. He was released on September 22, 2011.[3]

Oakland Raiders

Parker was signed to the Raiders' practice squad on September 26, 2011. On October 1, 2011, he was promoted to the Raiders' active roster. He was released on October 22, 2011.[4]

Second stint with the Seahawks

Parker was claimed off waivers by the Seahawks on October 24, 2011. He was released on August 26, 2012.[5]

Carolina Panthers

On September 2, 2012, Parker was signed to the Panthers' practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on October 6, 2012 then was released on October 8th and re-signed to the practice squad on October 10th. He was promoted to the active roster again on October 17, 2012, then later released and signed to the practice squad on November 7, 2012.[6]

Third stint with the Seahawks

On December 5, 2012, Parker was signed by the Seahawks off the Panthers' practice squad. He was released on December 28, 2012 and signed to the practice squad three days later. He was released on August 13, 2013.[7]

Kansas City Chiefs

On September 1, 2013, Parker was claimed off waivers by the Chiefs. He was re-signed by the Chiefs on March 16, 2015.[8]
